Buster Jones: The Voice Behind the Icons of 1980s Animation

Hello everybody. Today I’m taking a look at voice actor Buster Jones. Born in 1943 in Paris, Tennessee Jones grew up and went to Lane College in Jackson, TN. While attending school Jones was in a band and took a job as a disc jockey. He would work in DC and LA where he would take voice parts in commercials and eventually lead him into some of the greatest 1980’s characters. Jones would voice Black Vulcan on the popular Super Hero cartoon Super Friends. Along side other great voice actors such as Frank Welker and Casey Kasem, Jones would make a name for himself which would lead him to other memorable rolls such as Doc from GI Joe and Blaster from Transformers.

These two rolls would land him the voice of Winston Zeddemore in The Real Ghostbusters where he replaced Arsenio Hall and would voice Zeddemore again in Extreme Ghostbusters. Jones was also a host on Dick Clark’s Soul Unlimited talent show. Jones retired in 1998 and passed away at home in 2014. Jones was cast perfectly for Doc. He was just soft spoken and made you feel like you could go to him for your ailment or just talk to him like your therapist. Jones lived a private life but his work in animation and voice acting will forever be etched into our world. Are you a fan of Buster Jones work? Share your thoughts with us in the comments below! Have a great week everyone.
